I am interested in human geography, Latin American regional geography and geographic education. My most recent research involves transnationalism in Latin America. I recently co-edited an on-line collection of papers for the National Council for Geographic Education entitled Geographic Literacy in the United States: Challenges and Opportunities in the NCLB Era. I was a recipient in 2003 of the Preston E. James Eminent Latin Americanist Career Award from the Conference of Latin Americanist Geographers and in 2009 of the George J. Miller Award for Distinguished Service from the National Council for Geographic Education.
